One complete history.

High school athletic conferences are constantly evolving. Schools grow, communities change, and competitive balance shifts, leading to realignment that reshapes rivalries, travel schedules, and traditions across Wisconsin.

Shifting Sidelines is a living record of those changes. From historic conference formations to the latest realignment announcements, this archive documents when schools moved, why those moves happened, and how they changed the landscape of Wisconsin high school athletics.

Whether you're a coach, athletic director, sports historian, alumni, journalist, or simply a fan of Wisconsin prep sports, you'll find a comprehensive timeline of conference realignment designed to preserve the stories behind every move.

Because every move has a story—and every conference has a history.

I’m James Moser, a Wisconsin native who grew up in Brown Deer and now calls Madison home. I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of history, sports, and geography—and the stories that emerge where they overlap. What began as a project to learn more about my former high school’s athletic history grew into an effort to chronicle Wisconsin’s high school athletic conferences on Wikipedia. Shifting Sidelines takes that work one step further, exploring the people, places, rivalries, and decisions behind the changing landscape of Wisconsin high school sports.
